Social affairs minister calls for measures to protect children in Syria

Damascus, SANA-Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Kinda al-Shammat stressed the importance of developing an alternative care system and devising clear-cut criteria for the care institutions in Syria.

The objective is to upgrade the level of services offered for those lacking parental care, children of unknown parentage, unaccompanied children and orphans, al-Shammat said.

During her meeting with representatives of governmental and civil bodies, al-Shammat called for devising a work mechanism to ensure that children are well-protected under the extraordinary circumstances in Syria.

The participants stressed the importance of adopting measures to protect children and provide social, health, educational and economic care for them.
