Mikdad: President Al-Assad’s visit to China constitutes a new step in history of bilateral relations

Damascus, SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad said that President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to China is very important and constitutes a new leap in the history of the relations between the two countries.

“This visit will be a new leap in the history of the relations between the two countries, be it with support provided by China to Syria or support provided by Syria to China through its belief in one China and its support for all the initiatives put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping over the years,” Mikdad said in an interview with Xinhua posted Friday.

Mikdad noted that the relations between Syria and China have developed greatly in recent years, and the international situation has changed a lot, and China has now a prominent role at various levels.

Mikdad pointed out that China plays a major role for the benefit of humanity and has presented many initiatives on international security, human civilization, and economic growth.

Regarding Syria ‘s participation in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Mikdad noted that the Asian Games will add an atmosphere of joy to these important meetings between the Syrian and Chinese leaderships.

He indicated that Syria took part in all sporting activities held in China, expressing optimism that the Syrian team would be able to win a number of competitions in the Asian Games.

Regarding the illegal Western presence in Syria, especially the US occupation forces, Mikdad said that the US is exploiting and plundering Syria’s oil, gas and agricultural resources.

Mikdad demanded the return of these stolen resources and compensation for the Syrian people, calling on the international community and the United Nations to follow up on this important issue and hold the US accountable for plundering the Syrian resources.

“The American occupiers and those who support them must realize that this occupation will not last”, Mikdad said.

On the role that China played in promoting peace and development in the Middle East, Mikdad affirmed that China succeeded in achieving reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran because it has good relations with the Gulf states and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Mikdad added, “We depend on China and its role because it has no direct interests and it has succeeded because it follows an independent policy and a neutral policy and it enjoys the trust of all sides as we look forward and we trust that it will play roles in different conflict zones in the world.”

Mikdad pointed out that Chinese-Arab relations are based on common benefit and that Syria supports the frameworks of Arab-Chinese cooperation.

Mikdad expressed his hope about the future of relations between Arab countries and China.
