Syria participates in International Conference on Population and Development in Beirut

Beirut, SANA-With the participation of Syria, activities of the 6th Regional Review of the International Conference on Population and Development in the Arab Region kicked off in Beirut on Wednesday under the motto “Challenges and Prospects, 10 years after the Cairo Declaration 2013.

The participating Syrian delegation encompasses Head of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, Eng. Samar al-Sibai, a number of members of the People’s Assembly, and a representative of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority.

The sessions of the conference include discussing issues of human rights and equality in their multiple and intersecting forms, in addition to issues of reproduction health, environmental sustainability, population dynamics, and the priority of fulfilling the commitments of the Nairobi Population Summit.

In her speech during the opening of the first plenary session of the conference, Head of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, Eng. Samar al-Sibai, pointed out the progress made at the national level and the national experiences achieved in Syria with regard to population issues, in addition to highlighting the challenges it faces, success stories, and existing priorities.

The conference is scheduled to develop a set of main messages and recommendations emerging from the discussions that will be presented as a contribution to the report of the UN Secretary-General.

The two-day activities of the regional conference include the presentation of the results of the regional review report and the messages from the regional consultations.
