People’s Assembly approves amendments for traffic and vehicles law

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly on Sunday approved a bill on amending two articles in the traffic and vehicles law.

Transport Minister Ghazwan Kheir Bek says the amendments mean that the owners and drivers of vehicles cannot be detained or prosecuted if their vehicle is involved in an accident resulting in bodily harm to others while the vehicle is non-moving or parked. For example, if a cyclists hits a parked or non-moving car and is injured, this means that the owner or driver will not be arrested.

The Assembly members posed a number of questions, queries, and suggestions related to the transport sector, which the Minister addressed.

The Assembly also referred a bill on amending the law for founding the counterterrorism court to the constitutional and legislative affairs committee for study.
