Damascus, SANA- The Arab youth delegations participating in the Arab Solidarity Youth Forum visited Saturday the National Museum in Damascus.
The Director General of Antiquities and Museums, Muhammad Nazir Awad, gave an explanation on the museum which it is one of the most important international museums as well as its archaeological collections which represent various stages of the Syrian civilization.
The director added “there are over 30,000 archaeological sites registered in the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Syria, of which 6 are inscribed on the World Heritage List.”
Awad referred to the systematic sabotage which had been caused to a number of the archaeological sites due to the terrorism, in addition to the theft and smuggling hundreds of these archaeological pieces abroad.
He underlined that 80 archaeological pieces have restored up till now and the unilateral coercive measures imposed against Syria hindered the archeological sites restoration which have been exposed to terrorist crimes.
Members of the delegations considered that the destroyed antiquities reveal the falsity of the humanitarian slogans raised by the U.S, and voiced solidarity with Syria against the barbaric aggression and the blockade imposed on it.
Arab youth delegations comprising 92 young men and women from ten Arab countries arrived in Damascus yesterday to participate in the activities of the Solidarity Youth Forum under the title “Together to End the Siege and Unjust Sanctions on Syria.
