Syrian- Russian Inter-Agency Coordination Committees : The West’s sanctions impede the return of the displaced and refugees

Damascus,SANA- Syrian- Russian  Coordination Committees  asserted that the West’s illegitimate sanctions along with looting Syria’s wealth impede the return of the Syrian displaced and refugees and increase the suffering of millions of Syrians, underlining “the measures taken by the Syrian state to restore normality create favorable conditions for this return.

This came in a joint concluding  statement at the Session of Syrian- Russian Inter -Agency Coordination Committees for the Return of the Syrian Refugees held Thursday at the Conferences Palace in Damascus in framework of 5th Meeting to follow up the International Conference on the Return of Syrian Refugees and Displaced.

“Exerted efforts to return refugees and displaced can be seen in statistics concern the return of the Syrians to their homeland and resuming their normal life as approximately 2.5 million Syrians have returned home so far”.

“Moreover, thousands of facilities have been rehabilitated and reoperated since 2018 in different areas of the country” joint Coordination Committees added.

The two committees referred to the Syrian government ongoing development of industrial, agricultural and economic sectors and providing support in different fields as well.

‘Joint activities have been conducted in trade, Cultural Heritage and industrial and agricultural development’, the joint Committees stated.

The Committees have also mentioned that numerous agreements on the main fields of Syrian-Russian cooperation have been inked, in addition to drafting and preparing others for signature.

“Concerted efforts of Syrian and Russian sides have fulfilled wide range of tasks to activate the process of the return of refugees, along with delivering humanitarian aid”.

The committees asserted that the western countries exerted economic pressure on the Syrian government, besides, violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as imposing illegal sanctions and looting the country’s resources; this ,in turn, has negative impacts on refugees’ return and the livelihood of millions of Syrians.

The Committees pointed out to the deteriorated situation at the two refugee camps of Al-Hawl and Rukban in the US-occupied territories.

The joint committees reiterated their condemnation in the strongest terms of the illegal presence of foreign troops and their allies on the Syrian territories, asserting that the US and its allies are creating pretexts to avoid interaction with the Syrian government on humanitarian issues.

“Cross-border delivery is a serious concern that not only do they not fulfil the needs of all Syrians, but they contribute to prolonging the Syrian crisis and affect resuming the normal life in the country.” joint committees concluded.
