Syria, Russia to bolster bilateral agricultural cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Mohamed Hassan Qatna discussed Tuesday with Head of the Russian Cultural Center and Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Damascus, Nikolay Sukhov, areas of future cooperation and subject matters of an agreement between the Syrian and Russian Agriculture Ministries as well as mechanisms to implement it.

Minister Qatna hailed the strong ties between Syria and Russia in all fields and underlined the importance of boosting the agricultural relations along with technology transfer and scientific, research, and technical cooperation.

He underlined the necessity of establishing a technical team to draft the proposed agreement and its items to be ready for signature in addition to setting its implementing program.

Minister Qatna also emphasized the importance of exporting agricultural products to the Russian markets besides providing energy sources and production supplies, broaching the subject of exchanging Syrian products such as the olive oil, citrus, and apples with Russian production supplies like fertilizers.

Nikolay Sukhov, for his part, affirmed the embassy and the center’s efforts to merge visions and deliver ideas to the parties concerned in Russia for further cooperation in all discussed areas.
