OPCW welcomes the dismantling of a chemical facility in Syria

UN, SANA – The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) welcomed the dismantling of an underground facility used to manufacture chemical materials in Syria on December 31rd, 2014.

The UN Radio said the OPCW observers verified the matter and announced it on the same day.

OPCW Director-General Ahmet Uzumcu welcomed the move, which was delayed for technical reasons, hoping that all other activities will go as planned.

Last September, Head of the OPCW-UN joint committee Sigrid Kaag expressed appreciation for the cooperation of Syria in accomplishing the committee’s mission, adding that the unprecedented accomplishment wouldn’t have possible without the cooperation of the Syrian government.
