Speaker al-Laham discusses terrorism and ways to combat it with parliamentary figures

Monaco, SANA- Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham affirmed the importance of coordinating the positions of Parliaments and mobilizing efforts to combat takfiri terrorism which is spreading in the Mediterranean region.

This came during a meeting on Tuesday with Michel Vauzelle, the Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) and head of the French delegation attending the PAM plenary meetings, in which the two sides discussed the situations in the Mediterranean region, terrorism, and parliamentary and political ways to combat it.

The discussions also touched upon the issue of the French authorities denying the Syrian delegation entry visas to participate in PAM sessions, with Vauzelle expressing regret over this decision.

Al-Laham also met with the President of Asian Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the Pakistani Senate’s Defense Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain, discussing with him the Syrian-Pakistani parliamentary relations and ways to develop cooperation to combat terrorism and restore stability and peace to Asia and the Mediterranean.

In the same context, al-Laham met head of the Russian delegation Andrey Klimov, Deputy Head of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma, discussing with him bilateral parliamentary relations and the ways to coordinate positions in international circles, particularly regarding issues related to the sovereignty of states, preventing interference in internal affairs, and confronting international terrorism.

These meetings were held on the sideline of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean sessions which began on Monday in Monaco to discuss issues of priority in the Mediterranean region.
