Syria affirms universality of Chemical Weapons Convention will not be achieved without forcing Israel to join the convention , place its weapons under control

Damascus, SANA- Syria has affirmed that achieving the universality of the Chemical Weapons Convention represents a very important step in ensuring the establishment of an effective global system against chemical weapons.

“This matter will not be achieved without forcing Israel to join this treaty and place its nuclear, chemical and biological weapons under international control,” an official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said Friday.

The source said the European Union statement on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the entry into force of the Chemical Weapons Convention is full of hypocrisy, fallacies and misinformation.

Syria emphasizes the need for some Western countries to stop politicizing the work of Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and divert it from objective goals for which it was founded, the source noted.

Syria rejects the content of the European Union’s statement and considers it a continuation of the misleading positions that the Union has taken for several years and its continuous attempts to involve the OPCW in purely political and security issues and launch false and baseless accusations to serve the political agendas of the European Union against Syria and Russia, the source underlined.

Fabrication of plays on the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine is a continuation of fabricating the same plays carried out by some European Union countries in Syria over the past eight years, the source indicated.

The source stressed that Western countries, on top the United States, should be held accountable for their use of weapons of mass destruction and for the crimes against humanity they committed, in flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
