Mikdad: Syria warns against inhuman repercussions of cutting off water in wide areas in Syria and Iraq

Damascus, SANA – Foreign and Expatriates Minster, Faysal Mikdad , received on Thursday Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Mehdi Rashid Al-Hamdani and an accompanying delegation.

The two sides reviewed bilateral relations, particularly with  regard to cooperation in the domain of water resources in light of joint challenges imposed on the two countries as points of view were identical on the importance of enhancing coordination and consultation to achieve the interests of the two peoples.

Mikdad briefed the Iraqi delegation on the destruction perpetrated by the Turkish occupation- backed terrorist groups, particularly in terms of cutting off water at Alouk station in Hasaka province and around it , and in terms of reducing the level of Euphrates water flow into Syria and Iraq.

He pointed out that Turkish occupation’s violation of all international agreements concerning this issue, particularly the bilateral agreements which oblige the Turkish side to preserve the agreed upon levels of the water.

Mikdad warned against the dangerous situation of the inhuman repercussions of cutting off water in large areas of Syria and Iraq, and the impacts on health, environment, agriculture, drinking, sanitation, hygiene and others.

The Iraqi Minister, for his part, affirmed his country’s  commitment to its stance in support of Syria against the terrorist war imposed on it, as well as Iraq’s support for the unity of Arab nation, reiterating his country’s decisive adherence to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria.
