Egyptian FM: Turkish Government’s stances towards Egypt “hostile”

Cairo, SANA- Egyptian Foreign Minister Samih Shukri on Sunday strongly denounced the stances of the Turkish Government of Justice and Development Party towards Egypt, describing them as hostile and based on “dogmatic mentality” as they seek to achieve Turkey’s interests at the expense of the whole Arab region and Egypt in particular.

“The mentality and approach adopted by the Turkish Government doesn’t contribute in any way to the rapprochement between the two countries” Shukri said in a meeting with a number of diplomatic journalists on the occasion of the new year.

“Egypt will not concern itself with responding to the contradicted Turkish statements as it has many other important issues” he added, indicating that the “Turkish stances have gained a wide international criticism and resentment as Turkey lost its membership at the UN Security Council.”

He added that the stances of the Turkish Government will not affect the deep-rooted historic relations binding the Egyptian and Turkish peoples.

Last September, Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement that the stances of the Justice and Development Party “Violate the international norms and traditions and they entail an international solidarity to correct them.”

The statement called upon Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan not to interfere in others’ affairs, and not “to appoint himself as a custodian and defender of democracy.”
