Syrian-Iranian talks to reach new cooperation agreements

Tehran, SANA – Syrian-Iranian official talks started Tuesday in Tehran co-chaired by Premier Wael al-Halaqi and Iran’s first Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri.

The primary objective of the talks and meetings between both sides, al-Halaqi said, is to develop new work mechanisms that would lead to further enhancing communication and the standing bilateral coordination on all levels.

He stressed that talks will come out with signing more of cooperation agreements to the effect of boosting Iranian investment activities in Syria, including in the fields of oil, industry, agriculture banking and tourism, and broadening the scope of trade between the two countries.

While stressing that Syrian people are coasting toward victory against terrorism, the Prime Minister expressed Syrian leadership and people’s appreciation of the principled and firm attitude which Iran has taken toward their country, making a particular reference to the Iranian leadership’s contributing to easing the destructive economic impacts of the terrorist war waged
against Syria.

This contribution has included providing food supplies and oil derivatives to the Syrians for the past years and through 2015, in addition to securing spare parts for power plants, hospitals and factories, al-Halaqi pointed out.

To further cement the bilateral cooperation relations, the Prime Minister called upon Iranian businessmen to increase their investments in Syria.

He struck a confident note when he stressed that the Syrian delegation’s visit to Tehran and their talks with the Iranian side would draw new visions with regard to developing bilateral relations that would be to the interest of the people of both countries.

For his part, Jahangiri stressed in the course of talks that Syria is being subjected to a conspiracy with the involvement of some of the region’s countries, dismissing the conspiracy as being a Zionist one aimed at undermining the resistance, with Syria being on the front line of defending it.

Talks focused on relations in the fields of economy, industry, commerce, banking, and agriculture, as well as agreements signed by the two sides and improving the flow of Iranian goods into Syrian markets, procuring petroleum byproducts and spare parts for factories and plants, establishing investment projects and free trade zones, and expanding cooperation in the fields of transport and power.

The talks were attended by ministers of Electricity, Industry, Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Health, chairperson of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission, director general of the Foreign Trade Institution,  governor of the Central Bank of Syria, director of the Syrian Commercial Bank, director of Oil Marketing Office and the Syrian ambassador in Tehran.

Following the meeting, bilateral ministerial meetings were held, with Electricity Minister Imad Khamis discussing with Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian discussed the Syrian ministry’s projects, implementing signed contracts, and finishing up power plant projects.

In the same context, Health Minister Nizar Yazigi and the Iranian Assistant Health Minister discussed means to provide the needs of the Syrian health sector, while Industry Minister Kamaleddin Taameh and Iranian counterpart Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh discussed the prospects of new joint projects, particularly the possibility of building a bus factory and production lines for medicine.
