267 hectares area to be increased in al-Ghab region to plant medicinal and aromatic herbs for the upcoming season

Hama, SANA- The Director of the Plant Resources at the General Commission for al-Ghab Development, Eng.

Wafeeq Zarouf, said that an area of 2500 hectares was specified for cultivating the medicinal and aromatic herbs during the next agricultural season, of which 2100 hectares irrigated and the remained to be rain fed.

In a statement to SANA, Zarouf pointed out that this cultivation has been gaining popularity by the farmers in al-Ghab due to its medical benefits and its good revenues in addition to the decrease in its production costs in comparison with the other crops.

He referred to the high quality of the soil of al-Ghab region that fits all kinds of medicinal and aromatic plants such as anise, cumin and cilantro, so they are spreading in the fields affiliated to the Commission, especially in Muharda, Salhab and Suqeilbia, clarifying that the cultivated areas with these plants in the areas related to the Commission’s supervision have mounted to 2233 hectares in the last season.
