Lavrov affirms need of mobilizing efforts to face terrorist threats

Basel, SANA – Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed on Friday necessity of combating terrorism and mobilizing efforts to face the terrorist threats.

Lavrov pointed out during a press conference in the Swiss city of Basel, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), that the discussions on combating terrorism were constructive and fruitful.

“We discussed combating terrorism in the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean region, and we agreed on mobilizing our efforts to face the terrorist threats,” Lavrov said.

In his answer to a question on the Syrian crisis, the Russian Minister said “We discussed the crisis with the UN Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura, the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and the OSCE members, and all of them talked positively of the invitation of the Syrian government and opposition for talks in Moscow.”

He noted that de Mistura’s proposal on “freezing” events starting from Aleppo was encouraged, adding that this could be a basis for a ceasefire and moving toward the political process.
