Tehran, SANA – Iranian Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Ali Jannati called for reinstating Syria’s membership in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as soon as possible.
In a statement on the sideline of the 10th Islamic States Media Ministers Conference held on Wednesday in Tehran, Jannati said that as the host of the conference, Iran had to abide by the OIC decisions including the one to suspend Syria’s membership, which is why Iran couldn’t invite Syria to participate.
The OIC made the decision to suspend Syria’s membership on August 15th 2012, despite several Islamic countries’ opposition to this decision and the fact that the OIC charter requires a unanimous decision for such an action.
