Damascus, SANA – Ministry of Social Affairs and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) mission in Syria signed a framework agreement on establishing a women and children protection unit.
Minister of Social Affairs Kinda al-Shammat stressed the importance of establishing a unit specializing in protecting women and children that employs a scientific and systematic approach based on national strategy and fundamentals that will be realized through various programs and activities.
Al-Shammat underlined the close cooperation with the UN organizations and the support they provide in the relief sector, noting that protection will be a priority for the next year in order to ensure the safety of women and children who were subjected to various forms of abuse at the hands of armed terrorist organizations.
Chief of the UNHCR mission in Syria Tarek al-Kurdi stressed the importance of such agreements in alleviating the suffering of women and children under the current circumstances, indicating that the situation of displaced women and children in the camps abroad will be also tackled.
