Agreement with ACSAD and Spanish organization to improve farmers’ income

Damascus, SANA – Means of enhancing the agricultural sector and increasing farmers’ income are the essence of the agreement inked on Thursday between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) and the Spanish Anti-Hunger Organization.

The agreement will see for cooperation in the domain of plant and animal production and marketing and agricultural industry and promotion.

Sustainable management of water, soil and pastures and means of engaging pastoral farming in the agricultural circle and using agricultural waste in manufacturing fodder are also main issues that were agreed on.

The agreement, which shall remain in force for a period of five years that is extendable, focused on helping rehabilitate farming activity and improve the living standards of farmers.

Following the signing of the agreement at the Ministry’s headquarters, Agriculture Minister Ahmad al-Qadiri highlighted the scientific research- related role of ACSAD in Syria and its positive reflection on agriculture in terms of supporting agricultural producers and spreading advanced technologies.

ACSAD Director-General Rafiq Ali Saleh, for his part, hailed the unlimited support provided by Syria to the center, adding that the cooperation between ACSAD and the Ministry is daily and constant.

For her part, Spanish representative of Anti-Hunger Organization in Syria expressed appreciation of the role of ACSAD in making the work of the Organization in Syria a success as it aims at upgrading the living standards of the farmers.
