Damascus, SANA- Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi discussed with Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Syria Hanaa Singer means of activating mutual cooperation programs, particularly as regards immunization and enhancing children’s health.
Minister Yazigi said the ministry will continue to provide round-the-clock medical and health services to citizens, especially mothers and children, indicating that the ministry has launched 10 immunization campaigns this year targeting children under five of age that managed to reach 2.9 million children against enormous odds.
The minister indicated that the ministry, in cooperation with UNICEF, has made the necessary preparations to launch a new polio vaccination campaign earlier next week which, he affirmed, will be free of charge like the previous ones, targeting children under five.
The minister reviewed the losses sustained by the health sector due to terrorist acts that targeted hospitals, health centers and ambulances despite the humanitarian nature of the sector.
Singer, for her part, expressed appreciation for the “fruitful and constructive” cooperation between Syria and UNICEF that has been on for three decades, pointing out that UNICEF is part of the humanitarian response plan that gives special attention to immunization.
