Syrian wrestler Maher al-Khayat wins bronze at the Asian Beach Games

Bangkok, SANA – The Syrian wrestler Maher al-Khayat won a bronze medal in the 90kg competition at the 4th Asian Beach Games Phuket 2014 currently held in Thailand.

Al-Khayat defeated his Indonesian and Mongolian counterparts within his category but lost to his Kyrgyzstanian counterpart in the semifinals, and won the bronze medal after being defeated in by his Pakistani counterpart.

With this achievement, Syria raised its total medals to 5 after the bronze medals earned by swimmer Saleh Mohammed in the 5km and 10km races, Nadia Assaf in the Sambo competition in the under 64kg women’s category, and Mithqal Jaramani in the Kurash tournament.

Around 6000 athletes from 45 countries are participating in the 4th Asian Beach Games Phuket which lasts till November, 24.
