Syrian archeological piece classified as most beautiful and unique in the world

Damascus, SANA-The golden archeological findings unearthed at Qatana archeological kingdom are classified as the most beautiful golden pieces in
the world and the most important historically speaking while their topics are the most unique.

Historian Dr. Mahmoud al-Sayyed said that unearthing two golden ducks’ which had been used as a handle of an utensil to decorate the face is
a very important archeological discovery which is unprecedented in the world and in the history of the ancient oriental art and in the history of the
Syrian art in the second millennium.

The other similar pieces which have been discovered in different parts of the world were used to decorate utensils and they represent a single head of a duck and mostly they were made of ivory or faience and rarely they were made of gold.

Al-Sayyed indicated that the golden artifact was discovered in the southern chamber of the royal cemetery at Qatana Kingdom, and it dates back to
the period between the 14th and 15th centuries B.C.

He added that one can see how much the maker of this golden artifact was dexterous and creative as the necks of the two ducks are identical with the
natural shape of ducks’ necks while the heads are in opposite directions towards the outside.

One can see small single feathers on the artifact while the beaks of the ducks are opened and they are curved in a way that is nearly similar to the natural shape with small tongues inside them.

Between the heads of the two ducks lays a small banner or a mask of Hathor Egyptian Goddess of joy, feminine love, and motherhood, who appears
with two ears of a cow.
