Areas planted with wheat and barley crops in Hasaka reach up to 16 thousand hectares

Hasaka, SANA- The areas cultivated with wheat and barley crops in Hasaka province have reached up to 116 hectares distributed in different areas of agricultural stability.

The cultivated areas according to Head of the Plant Production Department at the Agricultural Directorate Eng. Jalal Bilal were distributed as follows: 92,900 hectares planted with irrigated and rainfed barley, 17,100 hectares of irrigated and rainfed wheat and 6,450 hectares of pastoral barely.

Bilal indicated that most of the planted areas till now are rainfed in light of the large turnout on the cultivation of wheat and barley crops which usually continues till the beginning of next month.

He added that the areas cultivated with the two crops are in need for rains currently which haven’t fell yet during the current season, particularly as the early ones of them have been planted from about a month.

Bilal expected that the areas cultivated with rainfed crops will double over the coming days to reach what had been set by the agricultural sub-plan.

It is noteworthy that the area planned to be planted with wheat and barley crops in the province of Hasaka for the current agricultural season exceeds one million hectares.
