Rouhani, Putin: Need for preserving Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

Ankara, SANA-President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani stressed on Monday that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria, saying that the only solution is political.

Rouhani added that it is very necessary to continue fighting terrorism in Syria and eliminate the terrorist cells there, calling for preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“The US illegitimate presence on Syrian territories poses threat to Syria’s unity and sovereignty, Rouhani said in a speech to a meeting for Astana guarantor states in Ankara.

He condemned the Israeli aggressions on Syria, describing these acts as “illegal behavior that increases tension in the region.”

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for his part, said “the situation in the de-escalation zone of Idleb stirs our concern and this region should not remain as a cell for terrorists.”

He added it is very important to keep Syria’s territorial integrity, calling on the international community to share in the reconstruction process.

“Offering the humanitarian aid to people in need in Syria should be done without politicization,” Putin said.

“The guarantor states work to realize the political settlement for the crisis in Syria according to UNSC resolution No. 2254,” Putin added.
