Damascus, SANA – The SOS Children’s Villages Syria association, in cooperation with the SOS Children’s Villages International organization, announced its plans for the second stage of its relief program which seeks to benefit 26,000 children.
The second stage consists of three main programs: the SOS child care centers, the SOS child-friendly centers, and a program for distributing food baskets to children’s families.
Representative of the SOS Children’s Villages organization’s regional director in Syria Rasha Mehrez said that these programs are part of a comprehensive campaign launched by the Unicef in 2014 to protect children’s rights.
Coordinator for the relief program in SOS Children’s Villages Syria Khaled al-Safadi said the association provided relief items and school supplies to children and their families, with plans to reach out and help 26,000 across Syrian provinces via a number of centers that provide care, psychological support, medical survives, nutritional services, and education for children up to the age of 18 years.
The association will open the first two child care centers in Damascus Countryside in the areas of al-Saboura and Yafour, where children will be provided with shelter, food, education, medical services, and psychological support by a work team and specialized volunteers. There are plans for more centers to be opened later in Tartous, Aleppo, and possibly Homs, with each center accommodating 100-150 children.
The association will also open four child-friendly centers in Damascus, Damascus Countryside, Aleppo, or Homs, which will provide psychological and social support for children through activities that help them tackle the difficulties they face in their lives.
As for the relief program, the association will provide nutritional baskets to the families of children covered by the program, with a goal of helping 5,000 families in four provinces.
SOS Children’s Villages Syria association is a non-profit NGO that provides care for children according to international standards, and is a member of the Vienna-based SOS Children’s Villages International. SOS Children’s Villages are present in 134 countries around the world, providing care for orphaned and deprived children.
