Engraved stone monument immortalizes great warrior against French colonization

Tartous, SANA – The fabulous engraved stone monument of the great warrior Khalil al-Khatib, a prominent leader of the Syrian Revolution against the French colonization, complements the glamour of the stone panoramic painting which overlooks Brumanet al-Mashaykh village in Tartous near the administrative border of Hama province.

The stone panoramic painting covers an area of 200 square meters with a length of 35 meters and a height of 5 meters. It includes the largest portrait statue in Syria and the Arab world.

Artist Alaa Ali Mohammed created this artistic masterpiece, in cooperation with several sculptors in 2008.

He underlined the significance of this fascinating sculpture as a national symbol and tourist attraction that adds to the cultural richness and beauty of the region.

The painting also demonstrated the important role of women in the struggle against colonization as well as women’s position as a symbol of homeland, fertility and beauty.
