Israeli proposal to cancel item on health conditions in occupied Syrian Golan, occupied Palestine rejected

Geneva, SANA _ The Executive Board of World Health Organization (WHO) has rejected Israeli proposal on cancelling the item entitled “Health Conditions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and in the Occupied Syrian Golan” from the agenda of 72nd session of next World Health Assembly.

The proposal, backed by the United States, was rejected by a vote of 14 against and 6 in favor at the end of the Executive Board session in Geneva on Friday.

Syria’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hossam El-Din Ala said that the Israeli proposals is an attempt to evade legal obligations imposed on “Israel”as an occupying authority under international humanitarian law and to cover up its inhumane practices against Palestinians and Syrians who are under the occupation in Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan.

In a speech at the Executive Board session Ala, added that the reason for listing the item of health conditions in the occupied Arab territories on the agenda of the World Health Assembly is the Israeli occupation.

He made it clear that removing the item from the agenda is connected to ending the Israeli occupation.

Ala described the Israeli position as an attempt to manipulate and politicize the organization’s work to pass political goals aimed at consolidating its occupation of the Arab territories since 1967 and trying to impose its illegal annexation of East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan in violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions.

He stressed that the result of the vote sends a clear message from the international community that the Israeli manipulation and attempts of the occupation entity to falsify the facts no longer tolerated by any one and that the implementation of legal obligations imposed on the occupation authorities is non-negotiable.
