Mikdad receives credentials of new UNICEF representative

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Fayssal Mikdad on Monday received the credentials of the new resident representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Syria Hanaa Singer.

The two sides discussed means to boost the standing cooperation and coordination between the Syrian government and the UNICEF.

Mikdad asserted Syria’s commitment and its care for all that could help realize the well-being of Syrian children and their development, pointing out to the services provided by the Syrian government in various aspects of their lives including health, education, and psychology, despite the current crisis affecting Syria.

He underlined the excellent conditions provided by the Education Ministry to allow over 4.5 million students to take part in the new school year and to ensure the success of the educational process despite all the attempts made by terrorist organizations to disrupt education in various areas in Syria.

Mikdad also condemned the terrorist actions committed by armed terrorist organizations against Syrian children, the latest of which being the bombing which targeted two primary schools in Ekrima neighborhood in Homs city.

For her part, Singer asserted the strength of the relations between the UNICEF and Syria, saying that she will work to increase the amount of services provided by the Fund to Syrian children in all fields.

She also appreciated the role played by the Syrian government in facilitating the delivery of aid and services to Syrian children.
