Syria, IPU discuss cooperation

Geneva, SANA- The Syrian delegation participating in the 139th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) session discussed on Thursday with President of the (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron and Secretary General of IPU Martin Chungong prospects of cooperation and ways of improving them.

Deputy Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Najdat Anzor, who leads the delegation, stressed Syria’s keenness on effective participation in the IPU’s conferences and activities, extending an invitation for Barron and Chungong to visit Syria.

Barron expressed readiness to accept the invitation, while Chungong affirmed his keenness to bolster the relations with the People’s Assembly.

During a meeting titled “the Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union”, MPAlan Bakr reiterated Syria’s adherence to its independent decision, its sovereignty and keenness to determine its future without foreign interference, indicating that any supportive action taken by the IPU should be announced after an IPU delegation pays a visit to Syria to know what is taking place away the misleading media and political campaigns.
