Gatilov: Fighting terrorism should be in accordance with UN Charter, respect states’ sovereignty

New York, SANA – Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov stressed that combating terrorism in the region must be in accordance with the UN Charter and respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.

Gatilov’s comments came on the sidelines of the ministerial week meeting at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

He pointed to the aggravation of the humanitarian challenges in Syria as a result of the terrorist organizations’ crimes, adding that the humanitarian issues in Syria are getting ever more complicated as the civilians still suffer a shortage in food materials, medicine and primary health supplies due to the escalation of the terrorist and Takfiri organizations’ acts and crimes.

Gatilov added that the attendees agreed on the need for consolidating international efforts to solve the humanitarian situation in Syria and the whole region, stressing the importance of collective work to root out the main factors behind destabilizing Syria and the neighboring countries.

He said that achieving remarkable improvement in Syria requires enhancing an integrated political process with the aim of solving all issues through comprehensive national dialogue.
