Committees to assess crop damage and devise a compensation mechanism

Damascus, SANA – The excessive rainfall and hail, which were accompanied by winds, have extensively damaged crops, mainly vegetables, fruits and tobacco in many areas across the country.

During a session chaired by Prime Minister Imad Khamis on Sunday, the Cabinet approved forming specialized committees to evaluate the scale of damage sustained by the cultivated crops.

The committees aim at making reports to assess crop damage due to the current bad weather in order to lay a compensation mechanism, especially that the farmers whose livelihood relies on the prosperous harvest of the crop was badly affected and they cannot bear the loss.

In a relevant context, the cabinet urged the Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ministry to intensity its efforts to develop the Syrian Trading to be a positive economic intervention force in the process of marketing the crops as well as meeting the needs of citizens.
