Al-Jaafari: Terrorist war on Syria will never deflect it from its legitimate right to restore occupied Golan

Baku, SANA-Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said some Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) states have abandoned the Nam’s principles under lame pretexts, stressing that promoting international peace and security requires confronting the practices of these governments.

Heading the Syrian Arab Republic delegation to the 18th Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Baku, Dr. al-Jaafari said that the NAM’s countries have agreed to achieve a safer world in which the principles of peace, justice, solidarity and cooperation are based on respect for the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and equality of States, non-interference in their internal affairs, and refraining from aggression and the use of force.
“Some of NAM’s members have unfortunately deviated from these principles with flimsy pretexts that contravene the principles of the movement, the UN Charter and international law, which have negatively affected the historical role of the NAM,” added al-Jaafari.

“Our conference is held under the theme of ‘Promotion of International Peace and Security for Sustainable Development’, and achieving this noble goal requires us as a movement to resolutely confront the root causes that threaten international peace and security and hinder our access to sustainable development, foremost among which is the spread of terrorism regionally and internationally by supporting, funding, arming and justifying some of the movement’s member states,” al-Jaafari said.
He pointed out that the criminal terrorist acts perpetrated by Daesh (ISIS), Jabhat al-Nusra and the entities associated with them in Syria and some Arab countries and world countries are an indication of the increasing phenomenon of terrorism which has “reached an unprecedented levels of brutality.”

“The way to eliminate terrorism is known to all: through the full implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, taking genuine deterrent measures to hold the countries that support and finance terrorism accountable and the abstention from using terrorism as a pretext for aggression and violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states which contradict with the UN Charter,” al-Jaafari said.

He stressed that the first beneficiary of what is happening in Syria and the region is the Israeli occupation entity, which not only continues its occupation and crimes against the Arab territories in Palestine, the Syrian Golan and parts of south Lebanon, but also supports Takfiri terrorist gangs in Syria, not to mention its aggressive actions to raise the morale of these terrorist groups in the Separation of Forces zone in the occupied Syrian Golan.
He reiterated that the terrorist war against Syria will never deflect it from its legitimate and inalienable legal right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4, 1967 in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.

Syria reaffirms its principled position in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on its entire national territory with al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital, al-Jaafari emphasized, with focus on guaranteeing the right of return for refugees in accordance with resolution no. 194 of 1948 and the full membership in the United Nations and other international organizations.

Al-Jaafari stressed Syria’s rejection to imposing coercive measures by the US, the EU and other countries on some non-aligned countries including Syria as means of advancing political goals and agendas.

He reaffirmed the Syrian government’s firm position on solving the crisis politically based on an intra-Syrian dialogue led by Syria without external interference, in a way that preserves the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, calling on the NAM’s members to show solidarity with Syria against US and Turkish military aggression.

Al-Jaafari concluded his speech by calling on those who invoke the humanitarian issue in Syria to cooperate with the Syrian government instead of taking unilateral initiatives without prior coordination with Syria, adding that the only channel for solidarity with Syria and its people is through the Syrian state.
Any mixing the humanitarian file with political issues is “a wrong and misguided bet” which out of keeping with the concern for Syria’s safety.
