Shoigu urges international organizations to support Syria

Moscow, SANA – Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu urged on Tuesday the international humanitarian organizations to take more effective steps to support Syria.

Shoigu said during his meeting with Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), that time has come for the work of all international humanitarian organizations, of which the United Nations (UN), UNHCR, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the World Health Organization (WHO), UNESCO, Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) and others to be more active.

Shoigu stressed that the Seventh Moscow Conference on Global Security will discuss, among other things, more steps in Syria to provide help to the civilians.

In turn, ICRC President told the reporters after his meeting with the Russian Defense Minister that Russia and the ICRC are concerned about the humanitarian situation in Raqqa and a number of other regions in Syria.
