SARC services reach five million people in different parts of Syria

Damascus, SANA – The Services of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent  (SARC) have reached more than five million people throughout 2017 in different parts of the country, including  services related to health, food, and living fields as well as psychological support.

The most prominent projects and programs implemented by 8,000 SARC volunteers spread in 60 units and 14 branches were discussed during a meeting of the General Organization of the SARC held in the Damascus-based Sheraton Hotel with the presence of Prime Minster Imad Khamis.

President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Francesco Rocca voiced appreciation of the daily sacrifices exerted by the volunteers, stressing that response to the crisis in Syria is a top priority.

Rocca noted that there are indications that the crisis is nearing its end, which makes the increase of the SARC’s activities a must, clarifying that focusing on psychological therapy and the support of the means of living is essential.

For his part, Head of SARC Khaled Hboubati said that the meeting aims at upgrading coordination between the branches of the organization and its partners.

During the meeting, documentaries on SARC’s services in the fields of first aid, health, and prosthetic limbs were screened, in addition to recreational activities for children and courses on vocational training for women.
