Moscow, SANA- Activities of the first WHO Global Ministerial Conference “Ending Tuberculosis (TB) in the Sustainable Development Era: A Multisectoral Response” kicked off at the Russian capital of Moscow on Thursday with participation of Syrian delegation headed by Health Minister Nizar Yazigi.
The 2-day conference will discuss means of speeding up strategy of eliminating TB, adopting immediate action addressing gaps in access to health care for the patients.
Health ministers and representatives of UN organizations, development agencies, regional boards, non-governmental organizations and private academic and research institutions will take part in the Conference.
In a statement to SANA, Health Minister, Nizar Yazigi, said that the conference is a significant station to assess the achievements and challenges facing the countries and governments in eliminating this epidemic , limiting its spreading and benefiting from the experiences over the past two decades in this regard .
Yazigi added that the Ministry shares the world the mission of eliminating TB using the modern technologies for detecting and treating it through specialized centers in all Syrian provinces in cooperation with the private sector.
He said the Ministry spares no efforts to detect the infections, treat them and achieve the national strategy in eliminating the epidemic and limiting its spreading.
Health Ministry, according to Yazigi, is working on delivering medical services to the TB patients in hard-to-reach areas in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the WHO.
The Minister stressed that the TB infections recorded in the country decreased from 3576 in 2014 to 3134 in 2015.
