Iran condemns abduction of 43 UNDOF soldiers in Golan

Tehran, SANA- Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Marzieh Afkham condemned the abduction of the UN peacekeepers in Syria by terrorist organizations, calling for their immediate and unconditional release. 

In a statement issued on Friday, Afkham held the terrorist groups and their supporters responsible for this action.

On Thursday, the United Nations confirmed reports that a terrorist organization seized 43 soldiers from the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in Golan.

About 81 UN soldiers remain locked down in their sites near Rweiheneh and Bouraiqa villages.

The United Nations Security Council condemned the abduction of the UN troops, demanding their unconditional release.

The Council urged the countries which have leverage over the terrorist groups to help in the efforts to release them.

A source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said Thursday that terrorist organizations kidnapped 43 UNDOF soldiers in the Syrian Golan, adding that the Syrian government holds the terrorist organizations and the sides backing them fully responsible for the safety of the kidnapped soldiers and demands their immediate release
