Phoenix Theatre Festival starts 6th edition in Tartous

Tartous, SANA –Phoenix Theatre Festival kicked off Tuesday in its 6th edition on the corniche in the coastal city of Tartous.

A variety of theatre shows will be performed by a number of groups during the 6-day outdoor festival. Those include Phoenix troupe from Tartous, Fada troupe from Damascus and Arabesque troupe from Hama.

Tartous Governor Nizar Mousa, who attended the opening of the Festival, stressed that Tartous province “will always embody the will of the life and expression of art and culture.”

For his part, Fuad M’anna, director of Phoenix troupe told SANA that the festival, which has been continually held for years successfully, “continues to hold a special position on the local and Arab levels.”

The opening ceremony included a play for Tartous troupe, which reviewed the stages of a national program carried out by the troupe since early 2014 to keep track of and document the cases of the army members from Tartous province who were martyred while performing their national duty of defending the homeland against the terrorist organizations.

The family of martyr Faissal Hamdi, one of the troupe’s members, was honored during the ceremony.
