Aleppo , SANA – Under the patronage of Prime Minister Imad Khamis, the Silk Road Souk (market) was opened on Saturday in New Aleppo area in Aleppo city.
Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Minister Abdullah al-Gharbi toured the market which contains assorted products including ones that Aleppo is renowned for such as laurel soap, thyme, textiles, sweets, and traditional handicrafts.
Al-Gharbi stressed the necessity to start taking the necessary measures and arrangements for the rehabilitation and reconstruction Aleppo’s old markets which are part of Aleppo’s history, heritage, and civilization, particularly the markets of Hanano, Dehret Awad, and al-Khaldieh.
The Minister said that the establishment of the market shows determination by the Syrians to continue working, and records to those who open it their high enthusiasm to be the first commercial market after the liberation of Aleppo city from terrorism aiming at reducing irregularities and providing over 500 job opportunities.
He noted that the Silk Road Souk includes 211 shops and has various kinds of commodities, products, and food materials, and that it was established by Aleppo Markets Company, Aleppo Chamber of Commerce, and Aleppo City Council, adding that the market is divided into three sections one for businesses, one for people affected by terrorism, and one for the martyrs’ families and people with special needs.
Later, al-Gharbi opened 7 halls for Syrian Establishment for Trade, calling on its administrative staff to redouble their efforts and to find ways for providing goods in the markets in a way that satisfies the consumers’ needs.
He also discussed with Chairman and members of Aleppo Chamber of Commerce the means to enhance commercial activity in the markets and to ensure providing food materials and commodities with high quality and competitive prices.
