Daraa Governor discusses with UNHCR delegation increasing joint projects

Damascus, SANA – Daraa Governor Mohammad Khaled al-Hanous discussed on Monday with the delegation of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), headed by Fadela Novak-Irons, means to increase joint projects and follow up on implementing others that target displaced families and terrorism-affected people.

Daraa Governor highlighted the fruitful cooperation with the international organizations and the efforts exerted in the field of rehabilitating houses damaged due to the terrorists- repeated shellign attacks, particularly in the neighborhoods of al-Sahara, al-Manshiyeh, al-Matar and al-Sabil.

He briefed the delegation on the Governorate’s needs for medical devices, qualitative medicines and desalination plants necessary for hospitals, in addition to the need of increasing food packages requirements for rehabilitation of infrastructure of projects of water, electricity, sewage and schools and equipment for power generating sets.

In turn, Novak-Irons said the delegation seeks through its three day-visit to assess the needs of the cities of Izraa and al-Sanamein and work on meeting these needs in cooperation with other international organizations operating in Syria, adding that the work is underway to rehabilitate 8 damaged schools and about 60 to 150 housing units.

She also said that the visit aims at following up on the work of the UNHCR that was discussed during last visit to bridge some of the health gaps through providing the social services association in Daraa with a shipment of medicines, expressing the UNHCR’s readiness to open two social care centers in al-Sanamein and Izraa cities.
