Minister Haidar: Local reconciliation project is the state’s higher-priority interest

Damascus, SANA – People’s Assembly discussed on Tuesday during its 13th session for the third ordinary round of the 2nd legislative term, headed by Speaker Hadiyeh Abbas, the performance of the Ministry of State for National Reconciliation Affairs and the efforts exerted to have information about the whereabouts of the lost and kidnapped people.

Members of the assembly stressed the importance of putting an end to the phenomenon of brokerage and those who exploit the people’s need to know the destiny of the lost individuals.

They also called for providing all requirements to enable families to return to their houses in the areas where the Syrian army restored security and stability to.

Other members questioned the procedures required for Syrian citizens abroad who were misled and seek to come back to the country and the progress made by the Ministry in regard to the files of the lost and kidnapped persons.

The members also underlined the need for coordination and joint work mechanism between the Ministry and the Assembly’s Reconciliation Committee.

Answering the MP’s questions, Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs Dr. Ali Haidar called for activating the work of local reconciliation sub-committees on the ground, stressing that the local reconciliation is one of the state’s higher-priority interests.

He noted that local reconciliation is a huge noble project and the ministry is going ahead with its efforts to achieve more progress in this regard and deal with issues related to the lost people.

Minister Haidar highlighted continued efforts to rehabilitate services facilities and infrastructures in areas where local reconciliations were established after getting rid of gunmen and eradicating terrorism.

Regarding those who were misled, the minister stated that there is a large number of Syrians who have got involved in the crisis and the role of the State is to set them back on the right path, adding that this is what the Syrian state is doing through adopting the approach of reconciliation and tolerance.

He added that for those who are abroad and want to return to Syria, they can send their requests to the Ministry through the fax, the e-mail or the Syrian embassies in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

Haidar stressed that the lost and the kidnapped are priorities and the ministry will spare no effort to settle their cases.
