Bangkok, SANA – The Syrian team participating in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship currently being held in Thailand finished on Sunday its first match in Group D with a tie at 0-0 against the team from Saudi Arabia.
Play during the match remained in the midfield with both team employing numbers in defense and resorting to quick counterattacks that didn’t threaten either goals except once when the Syrian team threatened the Saudi goal at the 45 minutes mark but failed to capitalized on the opportunity, while the Saudi team wasted a similar opportunity at the 89 minutes mark when Syrian goalie Walid Ghanam blocked a shot.
With this tie, both teams are currently at 1 point each. The Syrian team will go up against Qatar on Tuesday and against Iran on Thursday.
