Damascus, SANA – Ministry of Culture on Wednesday celebrated its foundation anniversary with the inauguration of five exhibitions for unique music equipment, plastic art, photography, heritage and book, a musical concert for Damascus Orchestra and an honoring ceremony for several intellectual figures, writers and artists.
The festivity, entitled “Culture… a day for word, humanity and life” was held at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts with remarkable official and culture participation.
At the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Imad Khamis conveyed heartfelt greeting for the heroes of the Syrian Arab Army, wishing mercy for the martyrs and speedy recovery to the wounded.
“We are here today to celebrate the Culture Day, to build our future with our creative works and honor some of Syria’s prominent figures,” he said, adding that the history will remember President Bashar al-Assad who leads Syria’s struggle to survive, and meantime, he continues to support culture and creativity in the country.”
He noted that terrorism targets Syria’s cultural and intellectual heritage, identity, artistic taste and passion for knowledge which gives us hope in the future.
In turn, Culture Minister Mohammed al-Ahmed said that Syria continued cultural and intellectual productions despite the ferocious war waged on the country , adding that any artistic or intellectual work reflects aspects of people’s life in that age
He added that the showcased paintings and photos, the theatrical and musical shows and the books stress to the world that the Syrian people, despite suffering and pain, are determined to share other peoples’ dream to live without wars, conflicts or bloodshed.
The art exhibition showcased 19 paintings for 17 artists of different themes while the photo fair documented the Syrian heritage and the Culture Ministry’s activities such as musical concerts, festivals and theatrical shows. The dancing show shed light on the terrorist war which targets Syria and its people and culture with hopes of close victory.
Actors As’ad Feda, Ayman Zeidan, Suhil Arafeh, Mayada Bselis, Najdat Ismael Anzour, Nadin Khouri, Nazir Nasrullah, Ismael Mrweh, writer Aniyseh Abboud, researcher Bashir Zehdi, Nizar Hneidi were honored during the festivity.
A number of Syrian senior officials attended the event.
