Steinmeier : Separation of “moderate” opposition from terrorists in Syria should be clear

Berlin, SANA – German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called for a clear separation of “moderate” opposition from terrorists in Syria.

Steinmeier was quoted on Friday as saying that it is necessary that there should be a clear separation of the opposition from Jabhat a-Nusra terrorist organization as new alliances between the opposition members and extremist groups have been emerged.

He urged all parties in Syria to shoulder their responsibilities, alleviate the humanitarian suffering of civilians and reach a permanent cessation of hostilities in the country.

Earlier, the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, in an interview with China Central Television on Friday, said that Russia has a heated debate with the US and the European states on “the issue of separating those who seek peace and have constructive positions from flagrant terrorist groups”, adding that this issue is the key obstacle for settlement in Syria today.
