Lattakia Governor, UNICEF representative discuss the province’s growing needs

Lattakia, SANA – Governor of Lattakia Ibrahim Khodr al-Salem discussed on Tuesday with Ghassan Madiya, head of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in the coastal region, the possibility of the organization to cover the province’ needs of development and services projects.

Such projects are highly needed especially in light of the growing pressure on infrastructure due to the large numbers of displaced people who have come to Lattakia fleeing terrorist attacks in other provinces, according to the governor.

Al-Salem called on the international organizations to cooperate and coordinate with the government establishments in the province in the field of aid delivery and distribution in order to ensure that aid reaches those who really deserve it.

In turn, Madiya hailed the efforts and measures exerted by the Governorate of Lattakia in terms of hosting and providing accommodations to displaced families and ensuring healthy learning environment for their children.

He pointed out that the UNICEF is working on expanding the plans of its programs in Tartous and Lattakia in light of the growing needs and challenges in the two provinces.
