Repair workshops of damaged infrastructure in Palmyra already going on

Homs, SANA – Infrastructure maintenance teams continue rehabilitation works for the damaged networks of water, electricity and telecommunication in Palmyra city as a primary step for locals to turn back to their houses.

Head of Homs branch of General Drinking Water Establishment Hassan Homeidan told SANA that teams have repaired two damaged wells and re-operated them, adding that once the city is cleared of mines and explosives work will continue to operate the remaining wells.

He pointed out that Palmyra city contains 11 wells with water being supplied form al-Dawaat area to the east of the city.

Director of the Syrian Telecommunication Company-Homs branch- Kanaan Jouda said the technical staffs are working on repairing the optical cable, whose maintenance will take some 30 days until it is back into service, and on re-operating the telephone center, which includes 10,000 subscribers, with 1500 of those are also internet subscribers.

For his part, Director of the General Company for Electricity in Homs Mosleh al-Hassan reviewed the damage that was inflicted upon the sector due to the terrorist attacks, including converters, major grids and transmission plants.

Al-Hassan added that the teams have started to rehabilitate some grids and aim to fulfill the task as soon as possible.

On 27th of March, the army units aided by the popular defense groups and backed by the Syrian and Russian Air Forces restored stability and security to Palmyra city and the archeological site and inflicted heavy losses upon ISIS terrorists.
