Medvedev: Putting preconditions for dialogue between Syrian Government and opposition unacceptable

Munich, SANA- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stressed that it is unacceptable to put preconditions for starting the dialogue between the Syrian Government and the opposition or to threaten of a ground operation in Syria.

Medvedev, speaking at Munich Security Conference, added that there is no substitute for the political solution in Syria and that Syria’s unity should be preserved.

He indicated that the world can’t afford another Libya, Yemen or Afghanistan, and that the results will be difficult in the Middle East area.

Medvedev said that the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) agreed on implementing the provisions of the international resolution No. 2254, adding that Russia and the US will supervise the implementation of these provisions and there will be a cooperation that must continue between the two countries.

He added that the NATO has adopted a hostile political approach towards Russia as the relations between Russia and the NATO have slid down toward a new Cold War
