7 ambulances delivered by UNHCR to SARC

Damascus, SANA-The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) received on Thursday 7 ambulances delivered by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to support the health and humanitarian tasks of the SARC in Syria.

In a press statement, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi affirmed the need to work in order to alleviate the suffering of migrants and refugees due to the crisis in Syria.

Grandi pointed out that his first visit to Syria aims at inspecting the situation of displaced people, stressing the necessity to reach all needy people and meet their needs in cooperation with the Syrian government, SARC and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

For his part, head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) Dr. Abdul Rahman al-Attar affirmed that this grant is in the framework of cooperation between UNHCR and SARC, adding that the ambulances will support the medical system in the organization which includes more than 45 ambulances distributed among all health centers affiliated to the SARC in all Syrian provinces and areas.

Dr.al-Attar expressed his hope to increase the support offered by the UNHCR and other UN organizations operating in the humanitarian sector.

Later, Grandi visited the temporary residential center Um Attia al-Ansaria in al-Zahira and inspected the situation of displaced people who are living in the center and the health, relief, psychological and educational services offered for them.
