“16 days campaign for eliminating violence against women”

Damascus, SANA- In coincidence with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25th, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Information kicked off the national comprehensive campaign for eliminating violence against women under the motto Educating women generates peace .

The campaign which started on November 25th will end on December 10th which coincides with the International Human Rights Day.

UNFPA Media and communication officer in Damascus Kinda Katranji, pointed out that the campaign sheds light on the positive effects of teaching women in Syria, asserting that educating women is one of the Fund’s main goals.

Katranji also stressed that the campaign, which was held with participation of 7 local partners, aims at reflecting a clear image of the unity and solidarity among the Syrian people through a series of cultural activities seeking for enhancing the harmony and social integrity among the Syrian during the crisis in Syria.

She said that the fund will held about 180 activities in a number of villages and towns in Damascus, its countryside, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Lattakia and Tartous provinces.

The activities will include theatrical and music shows and screening films in addition to awareness workshops.
