“A Child’s Smile” festival kicks off in Lattakia

Lattakia, SANA – The activities of “A Child’s Smile” festival, organized by the Family of Child Theater Association, kicked off Saturday at Dar al-Assad for Culture in Lattakia on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (a 3-day festival of fast-breaking at the end of Ramadan).

The festival, which will last for five days, includes chess, poetry recitation, eloquence, oratory and drawing competitions.

About 60 children of different ages are taking part in the drawing competition, where they paint drawings featuring rural nature and the national flag, whereas 12 children compete in the chess competition.

About 12 girl whose ages ranged between 6 to 12 years recited pieces in verse and prose.

The festival opened with screening a cartoon movie telling the story of a planet whose inhabitants fearlessly defend it against strangers.

Later, a 35-minute play titled “The Country of Jasmine” was performed at stage, in which this country faces an aggression by “bad guys” that is strongly repelled by its people, each in their own way.

The activities of the festival will wrap up next Wednesday.
