Geneva, SANA-Chairman of the General Federation of Trade Unions Jamal al-Qadiri called on the International Labor Organization (ILO) to condemn terrorist crimes against the Syrian workers, demanding that support for terrorist organizations be stopped.
In a speech to the 104th session of the International Labor Conference currently held in Geneva, al-Qadiri questioned the ILO silence over the horrible crimes committed by terrorists against Syrian workers which claimed the lives of thousands of workers.
He added that Syria is facing a brutal aggression led by the US and its allies in the region who had brought, trained, armed and financed tens of thousands of terrorists from around the world to wreak havoc in Syria, pointing out that the unjust Western economic sanctions against the Syrian people had battered Syria’s economy and infrastructure.
Al-Qadiri noted that war against Syria has caused the displacement of millions, the death of tens of thousands and the destruction of many factories and institutions that inflicted huge losses on Syrian economy.
More than 3 million job opportunities had been lost, he added, demanding that ILO exert pressure on neighboring countries to guarantee the rights of Syrian workers.
Al-Qadiri wondered as to why the ILO has cited the current circumstances in the country as a pretext for not sending a fact-finding mission to Damascus to enquire about the situation of Syrian workers in the Occupied Golan.
Representatives of 185 countries are taking part in the deliberations of the ILO 104 conference currently held in Geneva.
The conference this year, which lasts between June 1-13, discusses several issues including small and medium-sized enterprises and decent and productive employment creation, as well as facilitating transitions from the informal to the formal economy (standard setting).
