Dandi: Israeli occupation ignites the region and pushes it towards explosion

New York, SANA- The Israeli occupation is igniting the region and pushing it towards an explosion that cannot be contained by continuing its brutal crimes against the Palestinian people, and its repeated attacks on Syrian and Lebanese lands, Acting Chargé d’affaires of the Permanent Delegation of Syria to the United Nations, Dr. al-Hakam Dandi has said.

Dandi’s remarks came in a statement last night after the General Assembly adopted a draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip a large majority of 153 in favor and 10 against, with 23 abstentions.

He noted that the General Assembly’s adoption by an overwhelming majority of a resolution demanding an immediate cessation of the occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip represents a sincere expression of the conscience of the world and humanity.

The Syrian diplomat added that Syria had voted in favor of the draft resolution because it represents a sincere expression of the world’s conscience and humanity, but it has reservations about some words contained therein, which might be understood as equality between the Israeli occupier and the Palestinian people under occupation, between the executioner and the victim.

“We appreciate the courageous step of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, in bringing to the attention of the Security Council, in accordance with Article 99 of the Charter, that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is a threat to international peace and security, despite the fierce campaigns he has being subjected to,” Dandi said.

He added “We are resuming this session for the second time in less than two months, to address the insistence of the United States and some Western countries on liquidating the Palestinian cause and killing the children of Palestine in support of the Israeli entity, which is carrying out an unprecedented genocidal campaign, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 18,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 50,000.”

Dandi noted that the occupation has been destroying Gaza’s infrastructure, continuing to blockade it, preventing the delivery of humanitarian assistance and using internationally prohibited weapons in a flagrant violation of all international laws and humanitarian principles.

The Israeli occupation is today igniting the area and pushing it towards an uncontained explosion through its ongoing brutal crimes in Palestine, which coincide with its aggressive practices in the occupied Syrian Golan, its repeated attacks on Syrian territory and its targeting of civilian airports and infrastructure, Dandi elaborated.

He added that the use of the veto by the US again at the Security Council against the will of the vast majority of the members of the Council, and its overthrow of a draft resolution aimed only at a humanitarian ceasefire is a shameful insult to humanitarian norms and reveals the false concern for civilian lives, and It demonstrates that Washington and other Western states are fighting the war in the Gaza Strip alongside the Israeli occupation, with the sole aim of exterminating the Palestinian people.

Dandi said that the Security Council’s failure several times to stop the aggression encouraged Israel to persist with its systematic criminality under the pretext of its alleged right to self-defense.

He expressed Syria’s deep concern over the exacerbating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and its condemnation in the strongest terms of the continued barbaric Israeli aggression against the brotherly Palestinian people.

Dandi reaffirmed Syria’s standing by the brotherly Palestinian people in their struggle to liberate their occupied territory, establish their sovereign independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and its demand of an immediate cessation of the Israeli aggression.
